Disclaimer- This is probably very unauthentic. I used what I had and the minimal ingredients that I bought
So, for context, I tried pupusas recently and, instead of continuing to buy them like everyone else, I decided to try making them myself. I just searched up a recipe for it, and it seemed a little difficult but also really simple. I did see a lot of fails, but I did it anyway!
Okay, that was the context, now for my first attempt.
I didn't take pictures of my first attempt, sadly, but the show must go on.
So for starters, I went to the store with my mom to buy all the ingredients we didn't have. So we bought pork and cheese. We went home, and I started making the pork.
Pork recipe-
- Any pork meat
-seasonings (I used salt, pepper, and sazon)
-Onion
-bell peppers
-garlic
So I just cooked that up, put it in the food processor, and done!
Now here's where it got choppy. I thought that we had Maseca (corn masa flour) at home, but it turns out we actually had this instead:
I thought it didn't matter, I mean, it couldn't be THAT far off, right? Wrong, very wrong.
So when I tried to make that dough, the texture was more doughy, as if I were making a doughnut or something. But I was determined. I don't want this post to be too long, so just know it didn't work out...
So I went back to the store and bought the Maseca, now I could finally make this right!
So those are all my ingredients. It was much easier this time with the right flour.
And here's how they turned out:
They were SOOOOO GOOD!!
What I learned: Get the right ingredients the FIRST TIME, so that you don't have to go to the store again or waste ingredients. Also, it's really rewarding to work hard for something and have it come out well! I will definitely be making this again.
REALITY CHECK-
Effort: 9/10
Worth it: 10/10
